The new location will bring a significant pool of engineering talent and add to the company’s expanding global footprint.
The launch of Five9, Inc.’s new European Research and Development Hub in Porto, Portugal, was announced today. Five9 is a leading provider of intelligent cloud contact centres. With work spanning artificial intelligence, software engineering, and cloud operations, the office will act as the company’s European engineering headquarters.
More than 100 new and old staff are presently working at the location, and 300 more are expected there during the next three years. The new site increases the company’s ability to serve global corporations with operations in the US and EMEA as well as European clients by scaling up its ability to provide the newest cloud contact center and customer experience advancements.
“When we looked at options for our next EMEA location, Porto was a clear choice,” said Mike Burkland, CEO and Chairman, Five9. “The city is an emerging, well-connected technology hub with a large base of engineering talent that will enable Five9 to continue our mission of bringing customer experience innovation and business transformation to companies around the world.”

Two years ago, Five9 began quickly growing its European workforce. In order to provide high availability in Europe and make it easier to comply with local regulatory requirements, Five9 also announced in May the expansion of two data centers in Amsterdam and Frankfurt. By making investments in regionalized infrastructure for Europe, Five9 is able to meet the rising demand of its international corporate clients. At the Porto location, the corporation also intends to build a new Professional and Customer Support Center of Excellence.
