Globalstar Terrestrial Authorization Granted by Spain

Globalstar, Inc. announced today that Spain has given the firm permission to offer supplemental terrestrial services, including LTE and 5G compatible services, using its mobile satellite spectrum via Band 53/n53. This represents a significant advancement in the worldwide connectivity and property protection provided by the confluence of satellite and mobile terrestrial services.

“Spain joins the 10 other countries globally, and is the first in Europe, to authorize this innovative approach which ensures greater connectivity solutions,” said L. Barbee Ponder, Globalstar General Counsel, and Vice President of Regulatory Affairs. “Spain is leading the way in Europe on this important initiative, as we continue to work with other European administrations to bring the same communication solutions to their countries.”

We appreciate the Government of Castilla La Mancha, the Spanish Minister for the Economy and Digital Transformation, Telecom CLM, the U.S. Embassy in Madrid, and our in-country team of hardworking experts on behalf of everyone at Globalstar for this outstanding accomplishment.

As a respected business partner and the anchor tenant of its international teleport at Alcazar de San Juan, Telecom CLM has supported the hosting of Globalstar’s new ground station. In order to maintain strong service quality and redundant coverage for mobile satellite services throughout the European continent as well as north Africa, the new Spanish ground station joins three existing ones in Europe (France, Greece, and Estonia).
