HydrogenPro to make it way into the US Market

With the establishment of a 500 MW manufacturing facility in Texas, the US, and an estimated total investment cost of USD 30–50 million, HydrogenPro will make its first significant foray into the US market. The advanced electrode manufacturing facility that is a part of the brownfield investment is a technological game-changer for the HydrogenPro solutions portfolio.

This move will bring HydrogenPro’s total manufacturing capacity to 800 MW, and it marks a significant advancement in the company’s strategy to dominate the market for large-scale green hydrogen technology and systems.

The new site is expected to initially have a 500 MW capacity, with the option to later significantly scale that capacity up to several gigawatts.

As a result of the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), passed by Congress in August 2022, the US has overtaken other countries as the market leader in green hydrogen. Green hydrogen producers have benefited from a favourable tax structure, which has led to a 4-6 times increase in demand over pre-IRA levels. The US market is HydrogenPro’s top priority, and the continent’s manufacturing capacity offers a crucial foundation for success with the company’s previously stated growth aspirations.

By doing this, HydrogenPro will assume a dominant position in the market and turn into the only significant company offering high-pressure alkaline electrolyser technology and systems.

To choose the best location, HydrogenPro undertook an extensive strategic review of different US states. The accessibility of sites and skilled labour, infrastructure, the ease of obtaining raw materials, the proximity to end users, and incentive programmes provided by various states have all been taken into consideration when evaluating each location.

Since HydrogenPro’s European sales team has been servicing the US market for some time, there is a sizable pipeline of interesting and worthwhile projects that are already underway. The US organisation will expand in tandem with the increased manufacturing.

“The US factory will be our bridgehead into the North American market. A key factor for us to become the leading provider of green hydrogen technology & systems is our presence across continents, securing sustainable and local supply chains,” says CEO Tarjei Johansen, and adds: “We have great confidence in our technology & systems being an excellent fit for large-scale industrial applications, where we are now seeing an unprecedented increase in demand for green hydrogen following the IRA. Consequently, establishing a manufacturing site to serve the North American market is a natural next step in our global expansion plan and a very exciting opportunity for our company!”
